Large Gravitational Waves and Lyth Bound in Multi Brane Inflation

چکیده

It is shown that multi M5-brane inflation in heterotic M-theory gives rise to a detectable gravitational wave power spectrum with tensor fraction r typically larger than the projected experimental sensitivity, rexp = 0.01. A measurable gravitational wave power spectrum entails a large inflationary energy scale and a super-Planckian inflaton variation. They present serious problems for particle theory model building resp. a reliable effective field theory description. These problems are eased or even absent in multi-brane inflation models and multi M5-brane inflation, in particular. PACS: 98.80.Cq, 12.60.Jv, 11.25.Yb

A Microscopic Limit on Gravitational Waves from D-brane Inflation

We derive a microscopic bound on the maximal field variation of the inflaton during warped Dbrane inflation. By a result of Lyth, this implies an upper limit on the amount of gravitational waves produced during inflation. We show that a detection at the level r > 0.01 would falsify slow roll D-brane inflation. In DBI inflation, detectable tensors may be possible in special compactifications, pr...

Gravitational waves from brane-world inflation with induced gravity

We calculate the amplitude of gravitational waves produced by inflation on a de Sitter brane embedded in five-dimensional anti-de Sitter bulk spacetime, extending previous calculations in RandallSundrum type cosmology to include the effect of induced gravity corrections on the brane. These corrections arise via a term in the brane action that is proportional to the brane Ricci scalar. We find t...

The Lyth Bound Revisited

We investigate the Lyth relationship between the tensor-scalar ratio, r, and the variation of the inflaton field, ∆φ, over the course of inflation. For inflationary models that produce at least 55 e-folds of inflation, there is a correlation between r and ∆φ as anticipated by Lyth, but the scatter around the relationship is huge. However, for inflationary models that satisfy current observation...

Systematics of Multi-field Effects at the End of Warped Brane Inflation

We investigate in the context of brane inflation the possibility of additional light scalar fields generating significant power spectrum and non-Gaussianities at the end of inflation affecting the CMB scale observations. We consider the specific mechanism outlined by Lyth and describe the necessary criteria for it to be potentially important in a warped throat. We also discuss different mechani...

Generating the primordial curvature perturbation from inflation

The scale–independence of the primordial curvature perturbation suggests that it comes from the vacuum fluctuation during inflation of a light scalar field. This field may be the inflaton, or a different ‘curvaton’ field. The observation of primordial non–gaussianity would be a smoking gun for the curvaton model, while the observation of gravitational waves originating during slow–roll inflatio...
